This is a Pilot Project for the residency to come. The aim is to establish a new AiR locality with a large space for working and our own housing.
This year we will work hard in order to establish good connections. We will show and communicate your art to the people in this region, and give international artists a beautiful experience, inspiration and fruitfull working prosesses, in the exciting island of Kjerringøy.
Bodø will be European Capital of Culture 2024 and Kjerringøy Art Base Camp with the AiR program is included in their program ( https://bodo2024.no/en/ )
We have available a typical Northern Norwegian house with 3 bedrooms on the first floor.
Ground floor; entrance, hall, a big living room, kitchen and bathroom/toilet with washing machine.
We anticipate that artists will be inspired by the ethos of the Kjerringøy Land Art Biennale and interact with the natural environment.
We promise a peaceful working environment, in a most attractive and stunning area of Northern Norway. Get inspired from all over Kjerringøy with its museums, wild nature and wildlife. We have agreements for use of a spacious outdoor area in Nevelsfjord where you can make physical work in and with nature.
Workshop facilities are being developed, there are possibilities at our farm and nearby, we have a graphic press, welding equipment, electric and handheld tools, and are currently in the process of installing a ceramics kiln and studio.
We are working to secure funding for accommodation and artist fee. Until this funding is secured, you will have to be prepared to cover all your own costs.
1 room: 2.300 NOK pr. month and 2 rooms for NOK 2000,- each pr. month + electricity.
There must be at least 2 artists at the same period. We are working with Bodø 2024, European Cultural Capital for 2024, in order to ensure an artist fee and a good equipped studio.
NOTE: Cooperation, lectures, workshops and meetings is only demanded if funding is secured.
We plan special arrangements for the residents to meet students from Nord Universitet, The university in Bodø, primary and lower secondary school (grunn- og ungdommsskolen) in Kjerringøy and other schools close to us, the art scene in Bodø and their public or locally at Kjerringøy for the inhabitants on a local place. Any event will be a collaboration and you will get the help you need in order for it to be suited to you as an artist. You can make an artist talk, hold a workshop, give a lecture, exhibition, performance, film, photos or other.
This program responds to the individual artistic practice of the resident, and preparatory skype meetings between the program manager and the artist can be conducted in preparation for the residency.
We will ensure contact to other relevant artists.
In winter you can observe the Aurore Borealis. There are great fishing almost any season from the shore and from a boat. Splendid nature for hiking by foot and ski.
The climate is not too cold as we are close to the sea. Use the kajak both at the lake and the fjord and bathing are great on a warm day.
You can take a part in our life at the farm, if you like. Especially in the winter months during calfing. Hunting season in the fall and working the land at spring.
You can learn about reindeer work with our friends, The Pavall family, who is herding in this area, normally at fall- and winter-time.
Take train or plane to Bodø. Buss 400 to Festvåg or directly to Kjerringøy. There is a ferry from Festvåg to Misten on the Kjerringøy side.
